Talking about the role of an effective teacher in a school, the renowned philosopher Jiddu Krishnamurti wrote: “When I understand myself, I understand you, and out of that understanding comes love. Love is the missing factor; there is a lack of affection, of warmth in relationship; and because we lack that love, that tenderness, that generosity, that mercy in relationship, we escape into mass action which produces further confusion, further misery. We fill our hearts with blueprints for world reform and do not look to that one resolving factor which is love.”
On 5 September while celebrating “Teachers Day” many of us remembered the special people who made an everlasting impact on our persona and paid tribute to some outstanding teachers.
Altran introduced the Master Coach Program in 2016, for teachers who are working in 10 Engineering colleges, which were identified for the Arise on-campus program in Delhi-NCR and Bangalore. The program is designed to work with shortlisted teachers of the colleges and help them to improve learning outcomes by imparting training with respect to the usage of relevant modern day pedagogic practices, facilitation skills and teaching tools. The program is based on actual learning requirements which were expressed during the execution of Altran on-campus program at the grass root level, and is an extension of our vision to improve the quality of Engineering education in India.
A Master Coach Certified Trainer undergoes a five-month learning program, which is divided into four phases which include:
- Physical and online training modules.
- Writing assignments.
- Feedback on performance.
- Ongoing assessment and certification
This learning program allows an educator to develop a deeper understanding of aspects such as:
- Self-awareness as learner and educator.
- Understanding mindsets and biases which impact teaching and learning.
- Vision for self and working style.
- Non-confrontational communication.
- Learning Style, Reading Resources, Multiple Intelligences.
- Building skills to facilitate experiential learning.
- Student Centred Active Learning Strategies (SCALS) for 21st century classrooms.
- Designing for diversity.
Under this customised program developed by Quest Alliance, we have completed a series of four-days’ residential training which includes lectures, activities and online modules for teachers, with 25 members in each batch.
The online activity based modules are ongoing and the teachers will be certified by the end of this year. The program is aligned with the goals of the Arise by Altran on-campus program, which include:
- Bridging the gap between industry requirements and skill portfolio of the students.
- Train the faculty in Engineering colleges, to create meaningful learning experiences for the students.
This program will support the future sustainability of the Arise by Altran, and help Altran to reach more diversified learners through multiple CSR programs.
